Ref. 7272

Head of E-Commerce

In Swiss e-commerce, it is becoming increasingly clear who is growing – and who is losing ground. Rising acquisition costs, changing search dynamics including LLM-based product search, and increasing platform dependencies are putting pressure on margins and visibility. What matters, therefore, is not only reach, but the ability to systematically develop an online business along clearly defined commercial levers.

Our client is an established, profitable online retailer with a broad product range in German-speaking Switzerland. We are looking for a strong leader who can strategically and operationally develop an existing business area while combining in-depth e-commerce expertise with leadership skills, clear prioritization, and a strong focus on execution.

As Head of E-Commerce, you will take on a key leadership role working closely with executive management. You will lead the department, oversee the relevant functions, and ensure that the webshop, Product Content, Marketing, and data work together effectively.

Your benefit in talking to us:

  • Salary comparison, current salary to market salary
  • Understanding your career options
  • Identification of development and promotion potential
  • 65% of candidates will be making a career move within the next 12 to 24 months

WHY THIS ROLE IS INTERESTING

You will take over an established business area with an existing customer base, a functioning setup, and clearly identifiable development opportunities.

The role gives you a direct impact on further growth, professionalization, and business success. At the same time, you will work in a small, agile, owner-managed organization with short decision-making processes, a high level of personal responsibility, and significant scope to shape the business.

You will not shape the business from a distance, but work close to the business, close to executive management and with a visible impact on the company’s further development.

Operational role with genuine business responsibility

  • You are not responsible for individual marketing channels, but for the further development of a relevant business area with a direct impact on growth and business success.

  • At the core of the role is the ability to translate strategic goals into clear priorities, concrete measures, and measurable results. This requires a strong understanding of e-commerce, customer behavior, performance logic, and the key value drivers of an online retail business.

Direct impact on business development

  • You will work on the key business levers: visibility, user experience, content quality, conversion, basket size, repeat purchase rate, and data-driven management.

  • In close coordination with adjacent functions, you will ensure that the relevant commercial measures are effectively aligned. Your work will therefore make a direct contribution to growth, efficiency, and the further development of the business.

Established setup with clear optimization potential

  • You will not be starting from scratch. The organization, customer base, operational structures, and relevant functions are already in place.

  • At the same time, there are concrete development opportunities in areas such as user experience, content, conversion, data-driven management, testing, performance, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • What is required is clear prioritization, consistent execution, and the ability to systematically unlock existing potential.

Broad responsibility across multiple functions

  • Your area of responsibility includes managing and further developing Marketing & Brand, Product Content, and Webshop.

  • Together with the respective functional leads, you will develop the organization, establish clear priorities, and ensure that the relevant functions work together effectively.

Function / Setup

  • Head of E-Commerce

  • Member of the extended executive management team, reporting directly to the Managing Director

  • Location: German-speaking Switzerland

Main Task / Focus

  • Overall responsibility for the further development and performance of the online business across Webshop, Product Content, and Marketing.

  • Further development of the webshop from a customer, business, and conversion perspective, with a focus on user experience, functionality, content, speed, and performance.

  • Management of the key value drivers throughout the purchasing process – from visibility and traffic to conversion and basket size, through to repeat purchase rate and long-term customer retention.

  • Identification, prioritization, and implementation of optimization opportunities in the areas of content, conversion, data-driven management, testing, and performance.

  • Close collaboration with adjacent functions, particularly on topics affecting pricing execution, availability, and operational performance within the online business.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Leadership and further development of the department with around 10 employees, including several directly reporting managers and specialists.

  • Management and further development of Marketing & Brand, Product Content, and Webshop through the respective functional leads.

  • Further development of the organization, roles, processes, and collaboration models to continue professionalizing the department.

  • Initiation and implementation of larger webshop and IT-related projects based on clear priorities and roadmaps.

  • Establishment of data-driven management as well as a systematic testing and optimization culture.

  • Management of external partners and service providers based on defined quality, performance, and outcome targets.

Profile

  • Several years of experience in a responsible e-commerce role with accountability for results.

  • Experience in developing and advancing e-commerce strategies as well as scaling online businesses.

  • Strong understanding of the customer journey, conversion optimization, performance management, and digital sales channels.

  • Understanding of webshop systems, data flows, SEO, LLM-based visibility, and the interface between business and technology

  • Strong execution focus and the ability to translate strategic goals into concrete initiatives and measurable results.

  • Experience leading interdisciplinary teams and managing external partners.

Working Style and Culture

  • Owner-managed environment with a high level of personal responsibility and short decision-making processes.

  • Clear focus on results combined with significant freedom in how objectives are implemented.

  • A culture characterized by an informal first-name basis, pragmatism, direct collaboration, ownership, and mutual support.
